This grant-in-aid is open to students who reside in Bosler Memorial Library’s service area:
- Carlisle Borough
- Dickinson Township - North of Rt. 174
- Lower Frankford Township
- Middlesex Township
- North Middleton
- South Middleton Township - North of Rt. 174
- Upper Frankford Township
- West Pennsboro Township – East of Grahams Wood Road
Who May Apply:
Students who reside in one of the above townships, May 2014 Graduating High School students who are enrolled in an accredited college, or students who are currently enrolled in an accredited college with a 3.0 GPA, majoring in Library Science, Education, Journalism, Communications, or English. The applicant must be registered for at least 12 credits to be considered. Family members of the Friends Board or Board of Trustees of Bosler Memorial Library are not eligible for this grant.

Rachel Fishman, the first recipient of the annual Friends of Bosler $1000 Grant-in-Aid, is an Honors Fellow majoring in English at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina and the daughter of Steven and Nancy Fishman of Carlisle, Ms.Fishman, a graduate of Carlisle High School, served as an intern for the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County and the Red Cross. Her essay listed other contributions to college and her community as well, including tutoring autistic children. She plans to write, study and travel abroad as part of Elon's Service Learning Community; as an upcoming sophomore, she will return to college to mentor freshman in this program. She had the highest score of the Grant-in-Aid applicants on the strength of her merits: glowing letters of recommendation, a 3.9 GPA and an outstanding essay that detailed her accomplishments, abilities, strengths and goals.
Fishman was awarded the check at the Friends of Bosler monthly board meeting on May 21, 2012.
